Mud and Lotus Wellness and Sierra Acres Equine Assisted Learning Centre would like to invite you to a very unique one day Equine Mindfulness Retreat: Connecting Through Nature!

“When we open our minds with presence, we come to experience the deeply interconnected nature of our lives. We feel Earth is a part of us, an extended mental body that is as much a part of who we are as the somatic bodies we live in. If we are to cultivate the motivation to protect and preserve our planet, we need to be in love with our natural world.”

~ Daniel J. Siegel, MD, Mind: A Journey to the Heart of Being Human

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Are you looking to focus on nourishing your well-being, resilience and reconnecting with yourself, those around you, animals and nature? If you are, then this is the event for you!

We will spend a day together at Sierra Acres engaging in a variety of Mindfulness and Compassion based practices focused on promoting our well-being through interconnection. Mindfulness is a way of paying attention to what is going on inside of us and around us in the here and now. Through the practice we nourish our resilience, well-being, emotional regulation, empathy and compassion. Nature provides a wonderful opportunity to foster these qualities! It invites us to be fully present, to slow down, to pay attention and to connect. During this retreat you will learn ways of attending to your own needs in a kind and caring way within a supportive and nurturing environment. Our time together will be supported by facilitated interactions with the animals that live on the farm in particular the horses.

In equine assisted learning, there is a focus on wellness, taking a holistic approach to improvement in physical, social, emotional and cognitive functioning. As prey animals, horses are tuned to their environment and must be able to respond in an instant to changes and inconsistencies in order to stay alive. Their ability to scan humans and find our inconsistencies is truly amazing. Horses mirror our energy patterns and blind spots; behaviours that can stop us from moving forward in life or from moving into our own authentic self. Horses show us that to be effective in our daily lives, we must un-mask any internal frustrations and conflicts that may be preventing us from moving forward.

This one day Equine Mindfulness retreat will be an interactive and experiential event to engage your senses. Everyone is welcome, whether you have been practicing for years or are just beginning your journey with Mindfulness and Compassion.

LOCATION:

This retreat will take place in beautiful Rockwood at Sierra Acres Learning Centre, a rural farm setting that is home to horses, goats, cats and dogs. Sierra Acres is a 20 acre farm which is divided almost in half, offering green paddocks for summer grazing, and a wooded lot to the south. In the forested area there are a number of tree species- Sugar Maple, White Ash, Elm and Beech. As you continue further, there are wetlands which are seasonally covered with shallow water. Wild Ginger and White Trilliums are plentiful as are pileated woodpeckers, chickadees, bluejays, nuthatches, wrens and finches, robins and cardinals, crows, turkey vultures, geese, and cedar waxwings. You will also find peaceful areas to simply sit, listen and be.
