Understanding how our mind is at the core of every experience, we can examine our mind and learn how it creates happiness and suffering. This is the potential of our mind: we know that a negative mind can make even luxury feel miserable. Alternatively we can understand and develop our mind so that difficulties and adversity are experienced with serenity and even joy.

With teachings, discussions, short meditations and readings, this 4 week course will provide you with some understanding and some experience; a beginning to developing this potential in your mind. This is the first course in a 14 part series introducing Buddhist meditation and philosophy, called “Discovering Buddhism” offered by the Western Buddhist organization called the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT).

You do not need any previous experience in Buddhism to participate in and benefit from this course. As the Dalai Lama says, “Don’t try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a better Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are.”
